Comprehensive Exam
We request that all patients entering our practice receive a Comprehensive Exam. When we speak of a "Comprehensive Exam" what does this entail? It is important that we have enough information about your oral health when you leave our office that we are able to perform a complete evaluation of your oral health and present you with a review of findings at your next appointment. This information includes:
- Medical history
- Past dental history
- Soft tissue exam and oral cancer screening
- Hard tissue exam and charting of existing conditions of the teeth
- Full mouth series of radiographs, panoramic, cephalometric and tomographic studies where necessary
- Periodontal exam which includes 6 recordings per tooth and an evaluation of the bone and soft tissue support of the teeth
- TMJ exam, range of motion and evaluation of the facial musculature
- Photographs of the face and intraoral series
- Referrals to dental specialists will be made where deemed necessary
We request that all of our new patients entering our practice receive this exam. It is repeated if necessary every 5 years or in the event of serious facial or jaw trauma.
It is wise to take the following records if extensive restorative work is to be completed. When there is damage to the posterior teeth or severe wear we should start asking why this is present and articulated models is a good diagnostic tool with which to answer these questions.
- Impressions of the teeth to make stone models of the teeth(casts)
- The necessary records to articulate the casts on a simulator to study your jaw movements
